HIVE jr Art Classes: Three-Week Collage Course

Join us for a three-session children’s arts course focused on education and creativity.

Each day will explore new elements of what goes into one of Eric Carle’s collage illustrations with kid-friendly deep dives into the artist’s biography, a color theory crash course, and the art history of collage as a medium.

Throughout the three classes, the kids will sketch their illustrations, prepare special collage papers, and create a final collage with the materials they made.

The course will be run by Aviv Hirsch, a lifelong Arlingtonian, artist, and experienced children’s educator, with a background in developing arts workshops for museums.

Supplies (including smocks) will be provided, but please send your little ones in comfortable art-friendly clothes and with a water bottle.

Are all materials included?
Yes. All art supplies, including smocks, are provided.

What should my child bring?
Please send your child with a water bottle and dressed in comfortable, art-friendly clothing.

Will children learn about famous artists?
Yes. Students will explore the life and work of Eric Carle, learn basic color theory, and discover the history of collage as an art form.

How many children will be in the class?
Class size is limited to 16 students to ensure individualized attention and a supportive learning environment.

Can parents stay during the class?
This is a drop-off class. Parents are welcome to return a few minutes before pick-up to see their child's work and progress.

What if my child misses a class?
While we cannot offer make-up sessions, the instructor will help your child catch up during the following class whenever possible.

Who is the instructor?
The course is taught by Aviv Hirsch, a local artist and experienced children's educator who has developed arts workshops for museums and community programs.

Will my child take artwork home?
Yes! Students will bring home their completed collage and may also take home sketches and practice pieces created during the course.

What skills will children develop?
Students will build creativity, fine motor skills, color recognition, artistic confidence, and an understanding of visual storytelling through collage.

Why a three-week course instead of a one-time class?
A multi-session format allows children to develop ideas, experiment with materials, and complete a more meaningful finished artwork while building confidence and friendships along the way.

*Class/Event Registration, Cancellation & Refund Policy

To provide the best experience while keeping our programs sustainable, most classes require a minimum number of participants. Maxima Hive reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a class if the minimum enrollment is not met.

If We Cancel a Class

If Maxima Hive cancels a class, registered participants may choose one of the following:

  • A full refund of the original method of payment.
  • Store credit for the full registration amount, which may be used toward any purchase at Maxima Gift Center, Maxima Book Center, or any future Maxima Hive class or event.

We encourage participants to choose store credit whenever possible, as credit card processing fees are incurred when payments are processed and again when refunds are issued. Selecting store credit helps us reduce these costs and continue offering quality community programming.

Participant Cancellations

If you cancel your registration before the class or event, an 8% cancellation/restocking fee will be deducted from your refund. This fee helps offset the non-refundable credit card processing and administrative costs associated with your registration.

Instead of a refund, you may choose to receive 100% of your registration fee as store credit, with no cancellation fee deducted. Store credit may be used toward merchandise at Maxima Gift Center or Maxima Book Center, or toward any future Maxima Hive class or event.

Class Rescheduling

If a class is rescheduled, your registration will automatically be transferred to the new date. If you are unable to attend the new date, you may choose either a full refund or store credit.

Thank you for supporting local, small-business programming. Your understanding allows us to continue offering meaningful classes, workshops, and events for our community.
