Beginning Tai Chi

Let's Chi

In this 4-week series I will teach you foundational tai chi movements that you can practice for the rest of your life!  These movements are gorgeous to behold but even more satisfying to do.

I want to reassure you that we will be safe AND we will have a good time. In fact, by the end of my class, Beginning Tai Chi, you will have:

  • moved your body
  • quiteted your mind
  • felt sensations in your body
  • learned poetic names to precise movement patterns
  • smiled
  • felt great about yourself

otherwise, you can take this class again the next time (I'm sure that Jelena will agree).

Class Details

  • Once a week for 4 weeks starting on October 1st through October 22nd, from 7-8 pm. at the Maxima Hive!
  • Each class will cost $25 per session which you can pay each time or pay $80 for the complete four-week series.
  • Space is limited to 12 participants.

Please wear loose-fitting clothes. Less restrictive the better so that we can really move our chi bodies around. Wear flat-soled shoes. There are many brands out there. I am on the hunt for another pair to replace the current Feiyus that I'm wearing. We will not be on mats.

“There is truly no higher pursuit and no dearer goal than rediscovering and reclaiming your pure life energy.

Bio:

Katherine Oh is grateful to be here.

Born in the Year of the Dog, Katherine is a Korean American whose life journey it appears, in hindsight, has been all about herself.

Along the way, she has picked up a few skills from many many great teachers that she now feels okay about sharing with her fellow citizens.

Katherine has degrees in East Asian Studies from Boston University and Public Administration from New York University. From an early age, she felt called to contribute to the public good. That calling led to a decade-long career in affordable housing development in the Boston area, where she worked to expand access to stable, affordable homes and strengthen communities. As meaningful as that work was, Katherine sensed a need to reconnect with a deeper source of vitality and purpose. Around the time her second child was born she embarked on a personal journey to cultivate greater balance, energy, and well-being.

That search led her into the worlds of movement, mindfulness, and meditation. Katherine has long been drawn to practices that unite discipline with joy, body with mind, and individual experience with a larger sense of connection. She found both refuge and renewal through movement, sharing that passion as a Zumba instructor for many years. Her exploration of meditation deepened over time through dedicated study and practice. She currently practices Vipassana, and the Dragon Gate Lineage of Complete Reality Taoist meditations.

In 2024, she was certified as a Dahn Master by Body & Brain, an international organization devoted to fostering mind-body integration through its Body & Brain Yoga programs. Katherine was also naturally drawn to tai chi, whose roots in Taoist philosophy emphasize balance, self-awareness, energy cultivation, and harmonious movement. In 2026 she earned certification as an instructor through Tong Hua Men School of Kung Fu and Tai Chi. She continues her training under the guidance of Chun Shim and Huan Zhang.

Today, Katherine brings together her experiences in public service, dance, meditations, and tai chi to support others on their own journeys.

*Class Registration, Cancellation & Refund Policy

To provide the best experience while keeping our programs sustainable, most classes require a minimum number of participants. Maxima Hive reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a class if the minimum enrollment is not met.

If We Cancel a Class

If Maxima Hive cancels a class, registered participants may choose one of the following:

  • A full refund of the original method of payment.
  • Store credit for the full registration amount, which may be used toward any purchase at Maxima Gift Center, Maxima Book Center, or any future Maxima Hive class or event.

We encourage participants to choose store credit whenever possible, as credit card processing fees are incurred when payments are processed and again when refunds are issued. Selecting store credit helps us reduce these costs and continue offering quality community programming.

Participant Cancellations

If you cancel your registration before the class or event, an 8% cancellation/restocking fee will be deducted from your refund. This fee helps offset the non-refundable credit card processing and administrative costs associated with your registration.

Instead of a refund, you may choose to receive 100% of your registration fee as store credit, with no cancellation fee deducted. Store credit may be used toward merchandise at Maxima Gift Center or Maxima Book Center, or toward any future Maxima Hive class or event.

Class Rescheduling

If a class is rescheduled, your registration will automatically be transferred to the new date. If you are unable to attend the new date, you may choose either a full refund or store credit.

Thank you for supporting local, small-business programming. Your understanding allows us to continue offering meaningful classes, workshops, and events for our community.
